4 Top Tips to Lose that Muffin Top

1. Cut Out Saturated Fats

Fat which is stored round your hips is made of saturated fats. These are found in artificially sweet things like cakes, biscuits, sweets and also processed foods, like pies, sausages and burgers. Cut all these bad foods out and replace them with good snacks like fruit and nuts, which are full of good fats.
Your muffin top will disappear once you’ve burnt off all that saturated fat. The good news is, it’ll stay off if you stay away from them!

2. Cardio

A fantastic way to lose excess weight round your middle is to do cardio exercises. Cardiovascular exercise raises the heart rate to a vigorous level, so that it’s working harder but you can still talk normally and not be out of breath.

Cardio exercises include jogging, cycling, aerobics, walking up stairs, swimming and power walking. Sex also counts as it gets your heart racing (good news!). It can be difficult to see results straight away as women burn fat much slower than men do.

Keep at it and enjoy the other benefits of cardio:

  •  It burns calories and help you lose weight
  • It makes your heart strong so that it doesn’t have to work as hard to pump blood
  •  It increases your lung capacity
  •  It helps reduce risk of heart attack, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes
  •  It makes you feel good
  •  It helps you sleep better
  •  It helps reduce stress

3. Ban the Booze

Eating healthily but still have a spare tyre round your middle? Your problem could be alcohol. Alcohol is full of sugar and calories. Alcohol makes you bloated, dehydrated and craving saturated fats like greasy hot dogs at 3am! Stay away from it.

4. Suck it In

There’s a reason why ballerinas are slim and have NO muffin top- good posture! If you train your body to have good posture, you will stand taller, look leaner and have less of a muffin top. If you train your tummy enough, it will tighten and the flab will diminish!

Here’s how to get good posture:

  • Suck in your tummy and tense your abs. Clench for a minute then release. Do 10 more clenches. Repeat at intervals throughout your day.
  • Develop your core muscles i.e. your tummy and back muscles. They’re like your natural girdle. If you have strong abs, they will be able to support the rest of your body and this will improve your posture.
  • Tighten your buttocks. If you clench your bum, you’re tilting your pelvis forward and sucking in your tummy.
